MULTI-REG

MULTI-REG ® is a medical device for occlusal registration, developed by Prof. Stefano Pagano and Dr Francesco Tortorella, which is useful in many areas of dentistry whenever it is necessary to establish a precise occlusal registration in a stable and reproducible manner.

A light-curing material, available in pre-formed trays, which can be light-cured using any UV or halogen light-curing unit. The pre-formed trays are supplied in a light-proof box, which can be reused as a container for transporting or storing models, etc.

Scope of application

• Dental.
• Multidisciplinary (physiotherapy and/or osteopathy).

Dental: full arch, single-layer (single thickness):

• Recording at maximum intercuspation for assessment, diagnosis and follow-up during the initial consultation.
• Registration for requests for study models in various areas of dentistry.
• Registration following the preparation of crowns and bridges for interarch registrations.
• Recording in the field of implant-prosthetic dentistry, both during the diagnostic phase and the prosthetic-rehabilitative phase.
• Registration for bite splints (simple Michigan type).
• In orthodontics, for the purpose of checking or improving occlusal contacts when using clear aligner treatments.

Dental: full arch, multi-layered (variable thickness):

• Fabrication of a temporary bite splint in a single session for acute temporomandibular disorders (emergency cases, repositioning splints, decompression of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and/or muscle deconditioning).
• Recording during and/or following an electromyographic/kinesiological examination.
• Pre-treatment registration for direct/indirect restorative treatment.

Dental: partial use (half-arch, anterior teeth) single- or multi-layered:

• On a semi-arch during direct composite restorations.
• In orthodontics, to improve occlusal alignment when using various treatment methods.
• In the field of gnathology, in order to identify a mandibular posture and record that position.
• Creating a temporary muscle deconditioning gig.

Multidisciplinary (physiotherapy and/or osteopathy):

• The ability to assess jaw posture and, as a result, to reset pre-existing muscular engrams.
• The ability to decompress the temporomandibular joint and manually analyse changes in muscle tone and fascial tension.
• To be able to use the equipment (i.e. deconditioning equipment or temporary splints) in the tonic-postural context during the various cervical ROM exercises (accelerometer/Baiobit) and on the paropodometric platform, in accordance with the relevant procedures and protocols for use.
• It can also be used in the field of kinesiology, by carrying out various assessment and/or diagnostic tests whilst occlusal adjustments are recorded and maintained using the material.

TARGET PATIENT GROUP: Anyone who requires individual occlusal impressions for various types of dental treatment.

INTENDED USER: Dentist, specialising in gnathology and/or orthodontics. Physiotherapist or osteopath, in consultation with the attending doctor.

Preparation and use

• Remove the pre-formed tray from the packaging and reseal the packaging.
• Fit the plate onto the model (if already present) and define the contours of the dental arch and, consequently, of the future occlusal registration (optional step).
• If no model is available (e.g. during the first visit), apply an Optra-gate, fit the tray onto the patient’s lower arch after carefully removing any excess saliva, and use your fingers to mould the material onto the teeth (preferably only on the occlusal surface), taking care not to press too hard.
• Ask the patient to close their jaw, take the impression, and then proceed with curing, starting with the molar region and then moving on to the incisal area. Complete the curing of the entire arch in the vestibular direction; after that, ask the patient to open their jaw again, repeat the opening and closing a couple of times, and then cure the lingual surfaces. (Classic occlusal registration technique).
• As for multi-layer recording, it is advisable to carry out a standard recording, dry the resulting plate thoroughly, and then gradually apply further layers, curing each one as you go (no adhesives of any kind are required between the layers).

Curing times

Curing using UV or halogen light, depending on the type of unit.

Finish

If necessary, finish the edges of the registration/plate using a tungsten carbide cutter and sand them down with sandpaper.

Hygiene

Immerse the MULTI-REG® individual impression in a glutaraldehyde-based disinfectant solution. The duration varies according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
