Instructions for use

B-FORM

DUAL LAMINATE

B-FORM

Technical information

A double-layered disc with a hard top layer and a soft bottom layer, easy to shape and finish, made from ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and PET-G.
To use this material, we recommend using one of our B-FORM® thermoforming machines.

PRODUCT FOR PROFESSIONAL USE

Applications

  • A hard bite guard for bruxism.
  • Hard byte for ATM showers.

Thermoforming

  • Construct a good plaster model using hard plaster or good-quality 3D resin.
  • The plaster model should not be very tall and should therefore be thinned down as much as possible. The base of the model must have a smooth surface. Remove any parts of the model (vestibule, buccal floor) that may prevent proper thermoforming. Carefully remove any undercuts and round off any sharp edges on the plaster model.
  • The resin model, printed using a 3D printer, should ideally be made as low as possible and in a U-shape (horseshoe shape).
  • During thermoforming, the material always becomes thinner than its original thickness. As a general rule, for every cm of model height, there is a loss of thickness of approximately 20 per cent. For this reason, it is necessary to reduce the height of the model as much as possible or to place the model in the thermoforming machine’s chamber and cover it with stainless steel granules, leaving only the area to be formed uncovered.
  • Heat the disc in accordance with the temperatures and times listed in the section “Temperatures and times”
  • Lower the clamping plate of the B-FORM® thermoforming machine until the heated disc completely surrounds the plaster or 3D resin mould.
  • Apply the vacuum and in a few seconds you will have your bite registration.
  • Allow the newly made bite registration to cool before removing it from the model.
  • To make removal easier, trim the plastic material as close as possible to the edge of the model using scissors and cutters GHOST ALIGNER®.
  • During use of the mouthguard by the patient, it is recommended that it be sanitised daily with the SPORISAN® Gel.

NOTE: The sheet is fitted with thermoformable protective film which, if required, helps to preserve the original brilliance and lustre of the byte after thermoforming.

Temperatures and times

The temperatures and heating times required to achieve optimal thermoforming are listed below.

  • Thickness 2 mm - Soft side: 153 C° or 161 seconds - Hard side: 12 seconds
  • Thickness 3 mm - Soft side: 155 C° or 166 seconds - Hard side: 13 seconds

NOTE: The temperatures and heating times listed are for guidance only and have been calculated using B-FORM® thermoforming machines. We recommend adjusting the temperatures and times to suit your requirements.

FAQs

Would you like to find out more? Read the FAQs about the product.

The protective film on the EVA Soft sheet is thermoformable, so it can be left on the disc even during thermoforming, allowing the disc to retain its original shine and lustre after thermoforming, if required.
If the thermoformed sheet does not reproduce all the details of the model, there may be two reasons:
1. The disc has not been heated correctly and needs to be heated further. We recommend following the heating instructions set out in the section "Temperatures and times".
2. The thermoforming machine is experiencing suction problems due to wear and tear on components (seals, vacuum motor) or to excessive dirt build-up in the various filters, which is preventing the air flow from passing through properly.
If the thermoformed sheet shows creases, this means that the disc has been heated excessively and requires less heat. We recommend following the heating instructions set out in the section "Temperatures and times".
To make it easier to remove the sheet, cut the plastic as close as possible to the edge of the template using scissors and cutters GHOST ALIGNER®. For the finishing touches, we recommend using the finishing brush available in 3 different hardnesses (soft, medium, hard).
If bubbles form across the entire surface of the Splint sheet whilst it is being heated, this means that the sheet has absorbed moisture, as the material from which the disc is made is hygroscopic and therefore tends to absorb moisture from the surrounding environment. This problem can be avoided by resealing the protective aluminium pouch containing the sheets securely after it has been opened for the first time. We recommend using a Smart Seal 19 to reseal the protective aluminium pouch after each use.
Yes! Acrylic resin does stick only on hard side.
